About Alena —
“Taking care of yourself is the most powerful way to begin to take care of others.” —Bryant McGill
Born and raised in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. At the age of 7, I have initiated my training and an extensive study of ballet, lyrical and contemporary dance at the prestigious Charles University Dance School of Prague. I have studied a wide variety of dance techniques, dance theory and dance history. At the age of 13, I began to perform on stage in a variety of Prague theaters. After finishing high school, I became a member of the currently leading dance studio DOT504 in Prague. It was here when I began working as a dance teacher. I fell in love with the immense landscape of bodily movement. I performed at the company’s dance shows, both domestic and abroad, and I began my choreographing work as well. I felt completely drawn to the body’s ability to speak a language through different choreographic pieces and have found an outlet for my elevated energy, creativity and imagination. Upon completing my four-year tenure at DOT504, I have landed a leading female role in Ahasver show at the Prague’s internationally known Black Light Theater of Jiri Srnec. I was fortunate to catch a glimpse of Europe during the theater’s international tours.
While still living in Prague I have entered the door into the mystical world of Yoga many years prior to even teaching it. My curiosity towards everything mystical and spiritual resulted in me seeking practices that aimed beyond the physical body I was so familiar through the faculty of dance. Out of my personal need, I have explored the offerings of energy work in secluded and intimate setting of spiritual healing circles in Prague. I have become a yoga teacher and received my 200hr certification after my move to the United States. Although I have entered the practice of yoga through the subtle realm, I have initially begun teaching power yoga. The knowledge of dance techniques gave me a strong foundation to master the physical poses but it didn’t take long and I longed for practices that would offer a complete wholeness and could translate into my daily life, in my relationship with others and the relationship with myself. I have completed my 500hr certification and took a deep dive into everything yoga related beyond physical practice. This transformation reflected in my teachings and my own personal life.
I have been devoting my time, knowledge and energy to spreading the wisdom and practice of yoga for nearly two decades. I have designed and facilitated numerous sessions of my own 200hr Yoga Teacher Training. I am an advocate of continuous learning and practice through workshops and retreats which I enjoy designing and planning. I offer mentorship and coaching. My teaching tailors to private clients and corporations as well.
I aim to bring change with my work beyond the mat as well. Some examples are my past involvement and fundraising efforts for the Canine Assistants organization, Lifeline Animal Project and serving on a board of directors for Laughing Dogs Yoga, a nonprofit organization providing yoga education to underserved schools in the Atlanta area.
